I remember back when I was in high school, and I spent a good majority of my time playing Counter-Strike online, my brother advised me that playing video games would get me nowhere in life. He made a very compelling argument that day, and convinced me that Counter-Strike, or any game for that matter, would have to be a pastime, or a hobby, and I would need to concentrate on my career. Now, here I am years later reading about professional gamers getting paid to do what they love.
Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel is the world’s number one gamer with 12 Championships in five different games. At the Computex Taipei Conference, there was a Quake 4 tournament where the winner would have a chance to take on Fatal1ty, and win $100,000NT ($3,125US). It turns out the best Quake 4 player in Taiwan was absolutely no challenge to Fatal1ty, because after 10 minutes of play Fatal1ty won the battle 74 to -3.
I figured Fatal1ty would win the match, but winning by that much is pretty insane. I guess it does in fact pay to play video games. Thanks alot Jeremy for convincing me that video games would get me nowhere….
